November sales in the Powell River real estate market are still strong – at 36, that’s twice the number of residential sales as last November! New listings, on the other hand have been slowing down since March and are currently (24) a little over half what they were in November 2014. All this adds up to good news for sellers! Buyers are literally lining up for well-priced listings. As a buyer, you need to be on top of the market, know your prices and be ready to make an offer quickly when a home that fits your needs comes on. Having a realtor who’s sending you listings as they come out, showing you houses quickly and ready to help you make an offer when you find the one you like is what buyers need in this market. Oil Tank Nightmares!
Spilled oil doesn’t respect boundaries! It follows the easiest path – under the neighbor’s fence, into perimeter drain systems, into wells, etc, etc. If such a spill takes place from a heating oil tank, the contaminated soil must be removed. Imagine what that looks like if it hits the well, city drain system or the neighbor’s yard. It adds up to big money depending on the amount spilled. After that, what do you do with the contaminated soil? It must be “reconditioned”…more money. It sounds like somebody else’s nightmare if you’re cozy with your gas furnace. However, if you’ve ever owned a home with an oil tank, you too can be held responsible for a clean up if it may have happened prior to or during the time you owned it. Rule of Thumb: If you have an older tank, deal with it now!
